PROPHECY OF THE MESSIAH; THE DAVIDIC COVENANT.

A. The first six direct Old Testament prophecies of Jesus Christ, the
Messiah.
#1 Gen
3:15, The Messiah as the Seed of the Woman.
#2, Gen 22:18; Gal 3:16: Abraham, the Abrahamic
Covenant - the
Messiah will come from the line of Abraham.
#3, Gen 49:10: The Messiah will be of Judah – until Shiloh
comes.
#4, Numbers 23-24, 24:16-17 - Messiah as King.
#5, Dt 18:15-19,
the Messiah as Mediator - like Moses.
#6 , 2 Sam 7:8-19; 1 Chron 17:11-14,
Messiah, from the line of David.
B. The Eight Major Covenants of Scripture.
1. Edenic Covenant. – Perfect Environment, Gen 1:28-30; Hosea
6:7.
a. Edenic Covenant with
its perfect environment mirrors the prehistoric angelic conflict.
b. The issue is
always volition – not environment.
c. God demonstrates
His righteousness, justice, grace, and love to the angelic realm throughout all
of human history.
d. Man is the object of intense angelic
observation, 1
Tim 3:16; 5:21; 1 Cor
3:10; 4:9; 1 Pt 1:12
2. Adamic
Covenant. Gen 3:14-21.
a. Modification: new covenant and new dispensation.
b. Modification: provision of a Savior, Gen 3:14-15.
c. Modification: curse on the woman, 3:16.
d. Modification: curse on man, 3:17-19.
e. The curse on the man and woman as far as
their relationship with each other under the OSN is reversed and blessed only
through the spiritual life (FHS) of the church age, cf. Eph 5.
f. Modification: Man now driven out of the Garden of Eden, 2:24.
3. Noahic Covenant.
Gen 9:1-6.
4. Abrahamic Covenant , Gen 12:1-3; 17:14.
5. Palestinian or Real Estate Covenant, Dt 29:1-30:20; Ezekiel 16.
6. Mosaic Covenant: conditional covenant of moral law, Ex 20-40.
7. Davidic Covenant, 2 Sam 7:11-16. The Davidic covenant dilates on the seed
aspect of the Abrahamic covenant in particular the
Messiah.
a. 2 Sam 7:11-16
refers to Solomon and then an eternal kingdom.
b. 1 Chron.
17:10-14 focuses in on the Messianic Seed of the Davidic covenant.
c. Provisions of the Davidic Covenant: God will provide a house, i.e. a dynasty; Solomon will be
secured on the throne; Solomon will
build the Temple; the Davidic Throne
will be established forever;
d. Four promises of the David Covenant: eternal house, eternal kingdom, eternal
throne, and eternal descendent.
e. Confirmation of the Davidic Covenant, Psa 89:3-4, 36; Jer 23:5; 30:8; 33:14, 19; Luke 1:26-33.
8. New Covenant to Israel, Jer
31:31-34.
